Boomi's March 2026 release: model choice for agents and broader API management

Boomi published its March 2026 platform release on 14 March. It is a broad release with news in agents, integration, B2B/EDI, API management, data integration and file transfer. Below are the changes we think matter most for integration teams.

Agents: choose a model per task

Agent Designer gets a separate section for model settings. You can choose a standard model for tasks that need more reasoning, or a fast model for tasks where response time matters most. An option for extended thinking can be switched on when the agent needs to work through harder problems.

This matters because model choice drives both quality and cost. An agent that sorts incoming email does not need the same model as one that suggests how to resolve a disputed invoice.

Agent Control Tower, Boomi’s overview of agents across platforms, gets separate views for how often agents are called and how often they call a model. That gives a first picture of usage and cost per agent, which most companies lack today.

API management: gateways without extra installation

In Cloud API Management, Boomi can now discover APIs without first installing a separate discovery agent. APIs can also be imported with a single click.

The most interesting news is API products that span several platforms. An API product can bundle APIs that run in different environments and gateways, and offer them as one package in the developer portal. For companies with more than one gateway, which is most large companies, this is a step towards one catalogue for all APIs.

The developer portal can also generate code examples in six programming languages.

Integration, EDI and connectors

• Global variables are now generally available, so values can be managed in one place and reused across connections and trading partner settings.
• Archiving of execution history on the runtime makes it possible to keep logs longer than the standard 18 months.
• AS2 security can be enforced by policy, so inbound EDI messages without encryption and signature are rejected.
• The OpenAI connector is generally available, with support for multi-turn conversations. Connectors for ServiceNow REST and Workday are also generally available.

Our assessment

The March release is less about big new products and more about making agents and APIs easier to operate. Model choice per agent and invocation figures in Agent Control Tower are small steps, but they are exactly what is needed to get control over cost and usage as the number of agents grows.

If you use Boomi, look at the AS2 policies first. Enforcing encryption and signing is a simple way to tighten B2B security, and it does not require changes to the integrations themselves.
