Gartner Magic Quadrant for iPaaS 2026: AI is now part of the test

Gartner's 2026 Magic Quadrant for iPaaS covers 18 vendors and puts AI agents, AI gateways and MCP on the list of requirements. What the report signals for buyers.

Gartner published its Magic Quadrant for Integration Platform as a Service (iPaaS) on 16 March 2026. The full report is behind Gartner’s paywall, but vendors have shared their placements and parts of Gartner’s reasoning. Taken together, they show that AI is no longer an extra feature in iPaaS evaluations. It is part of the test.

Who is in it

The report evaluates 18 vendors: Amazon Web Services, Boomi, Celigo, Frends, Google, Huawei Cloud, IBM, Jitterbit, Microsoft, Oracle, Salesforce (Informatica), Salesforce (MuleSoft), SAP, SEEBURGER, SnapLogic, Tray.ai, Workato and Zapier.

Among the placements the vendors themselves have published:

  • Boomi is a Leader for the 12th time and says it has the highest placement on Ability to Execute this year.
  • Workato is a Leader for the eighth year in a row and placed furthest on Completeness of Vision for the third year.
  • Microsoft is a Leader for the eighth year in a row with Azure Integration Services.
  • SAP is a Leader for the sixth time with SAP Integration Suite.
  • SnapLogic is placed as a Visionary.
  • Frends is placed as a Niche Player.

Note that these are the vendors’ own summaries. Each vendor highlights what suits it best, and the complete picture is only in the report.

One detail stands out in the list: Salesforce now appears twice, with both MuleSoft and Informatica, after the Informatica acquisition.

What Gartner emphasises

Based on what the vendors quote, Gartner describes two waves of AI in iPaaS. In the short term, AI makes integration work faster and lets more people build integrations. In the longer term, new requirements come into play: AI workflows, orchestration of AI agents, AI gateways and composite AI. Support for open standards such as the Model Context Protocol (MCP) is mentioned as a way to connect AI to enterprise systems without vendor lock-in.

Gartner also points out, according to SnapLogic, that modernising legacy integrations is a necessary step to prepare the architecture for AI, and that platforms are expected to cover application, data and AI integration together.

What it means for buyers

A Magic Quadrant is a starting point, not an answer. The placements say something about the vendor’s overall strength in the global market, not about which platform suits your organisation. A few practical points:

  1. Look beyond the Leaders. A Niche Player or a Visionary can be the best choice if it fits your systems, your skills and your budget. Local support and data residency matter a lot in Norway and the Nordics.
  2. Use Gartner’s AI requirements as a checklist. Ask all vendors how they handle agent orchestration, AI gateway, MCP and governance of agents. The answers vary more than the marketing suggests.
  3. Read the cautions. Every vendor has cautions in the report. Ask to see the full report, which most vendors make available for free.
  4. Test with your own case. A two-week proof of concept with your own systems says more than any quadrant.

Expect the market to move quickly after this report. Governance of AI agents is where we expect the vendors to compete hardest over the coming year.
