Boomi World 2026: Boomi Connect, an MCP registry and the Lunar.dev deal

Boomi used its Boomi World conference on 13 May to make a clear point: most of what it announced was generally available on the day, not in preview. The common thread was connecting AI tools to business systems in a controlled way, and Boomi backed it up with a plan to buy Lunar.dev, a company that makes an AI and MCP gateway.

What Boomi launched

The main announcements, all generally available unless noted:

• Boomi Connect lets AI tools such as Claude, Copilot and Gemini reach more than 1,000 business applications through MCP-enabled tools. It includes an AI gateway for policies, cost control and observability.
• MCP Registry is a central catalogue for finding, governing and managing MCP servers, both in Boomi and in third-party registries.
• Boomi Orchestrate lets business and IT teams build agent workflows in natural language that combine agents, APIs, integrations, event streams and data models.
• Boomi Companion lets developers design, build, test, deploy and troubleshoot integrations in natural language from the AI tool they prefer. According to Constellation Research, it is released as free agent skills and plugins on GitHub.
• Knowledge Hub and Meta Hub give agents governed search across company knowledge and approved business definitions.
• Distributed Agent Runtime lets agents run on-premises, closer to the data.
• Agent SIM tests how an agent behaves before it goes into production. This one is a preview.

Boomi also announced its intent to acquire Lunar.dev. Lunar.dev’s gateway is to become part of Boomi Connect and add policy-based control of AI and MCP traffic. The terms were not disclosed.

Why it matters

Boomi Connect and the MCP registry show where the iPaaS vendors see their role in the agent market. They are not trying to build the best agent. They want to be the governed door into business systems that every agent has to pass through. The Lunar.dev deal strengthens that door: a gateway specialised for MCP traffic, with policies and cost control, in addition to the connectors Boomi already has.

Constellation Research also noted Boomi’s point that only a minority of enterprise applications are connected today. An agent that cannot reach a system cannot do anything with it, whatever model it uses.

How it compares

The same building blocks are appearing everywhere this spring: an MCP or agent registry, an AI gateway and tools that expose integrations as MCP tools. What sets Boomi apart this time is how much is already generally available, and the move to put its developer tools inside other vendors’ AI assistants instead of only in its own interface.

What to ask

1. Which registry is the main one? If you use Boomi’s MCP Registry together with registries from other platforms, decide which one is the source of truth.
2. What goes through the gateway? Check whether all AI traffic to business systems passes through Boomi Connect’s gateway, or only the traffic that starts in Boomi.
3. Where do agents run? Consider whether agents that handle sensitive data should use the on-premises runtime.
